Anvil shark

The stecanthus or anvil shark was an ancient shark which lived 360 – 340 million years ago

They had strange anvil shaped dorsal fin. On these were small spike shaped hair

These fins are found only on males giving theories like maybe these were for the mating season

They are quite small and only 70 centimeters in length

Dunkleosteus

The dunkleosteus was the first large and apex predator on earth

It lived about 352 – 358 million years ago

A special fact is that despite having no teeth it could still bite as their armor on their faces also evolved into teeth

They ate fish, sharks and other dunkleosteus

Buzzsaw shark

The heliocopron or the buzz saw shark was an ancient shark which lived 280 years ago

They have their lower jaw in a circular shape covered in teeth like a buzzsaw

They ate fish and squids

Many sharks have their teeth break off and again regrow to stay alive, this shark was the first to evolve that ability

Mosasaurus

The mosasaurus was a type of the family mosasaurs existing 82 – 66 million years ago

They ate sharks, bony fish, birds, squids and octopi, other Mosasaurus and turtles

Their max size is 17 meters

They were ambush hunters, teaching their young how to hunt

Megalodon

Megalodons are ancient sharks which ruled the ocean 20 million years ago

The name megalodon means big tooth

It is the ancestor of the modern great whites and used to eat whales, turtles and dolphins as its daily diet

The strange thing about them is that nobody knows how they died.
